Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC) is hosting a series of open houses for individuals interested in learning more about its career skills programs in Machinist Technology/CNC, Welding Technology and SMART (Systems Maintenance, Automation and Robotics Technology).
During the informal events, attendees will meet instructors, tour the hands-on learning labs and receive information about how they can earn a one-year certificate, two-year degree and individual industry credentials in these in-demand industrial sectors.
South Charleston
The first open house is Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in South Charleston (100 Angus E. Peyton Dr.). MAMC offers its machinist program in the Kanawha Valley in partnership with BridgeValley Community and Technical College. Prospective students and their family and friends will tour the CNC Machining Technology Lab, talk with instructors and learn about financial aid options, including West Virginia Invests. A second South Charleston open house is set for March 5 at the same location and time.
Huntington
MAMC Huntington (1050 Fourth Ave.) will host open houses Feb. 10, Feb. 26, Mar. 12 and Mar. 24 from 3-7 p.m. each day. MAMC offers machining, welding and SMART programs in Huntington in partnership with Mountwest Community and Technical College (MCTC). Attendees will tour the machining and SMART labs, talk with instructors from all three career skills programs and meet one-on-one with student support specialists to learn about their options.
Point Pleasant
MAMC will highlight its SMART program Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marshall University Mid-Ohio Valley Center in Point Pleasant (1 John Marshall Dr.). The enhanced industrial maintenance program is offered both in Huntington and Point Pleasant in partnership with MCTC. As with the other open houses, attendees will tour the facility, meet with instructors and learn how the career skills program can lead to meaningful employment.
“For the convenience of prospective students and their families, we’re offering multiple open houses to showcase our nationally recognized career skills programs,” said MAMC Director Derek Scarbro. “Because of the demand in these fields, all three of our programs are covered by West Virginia Invests (www.cfwv.com/financial-aid/wv-invests-grant), which means most qualified state residents can earn a college without incurring debt.”
New classes for all three career skills programs begin in August. To learn more, contact MAMC’s Jill Goheen (, 304-781-1678), Alyssa Weber (, 304-781-1664) or visit www.mfg.marshall.edu/careers.
