Employers invited to Mar. 11 reverse job fair, SMART open house

Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC) invites industry representatives to a double-feature event March 11 in Huntington: A reverse job fair and an open house of the newly expanded SMART (Systems Maintenance, Automation and Robotics Technology) career skills program.

The free events will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MAMC Huntington, 1050 Fourth Ave. Lunch will be provided.

Participants are asked to register at www.mfg.marshall.edu/March11.

For the reverse job fair, MAMC Machinist Technology/CNC, Welding Technology and SMART students will be positioned at individual stations to talk with companies about internships, prospective job opportunities and to share their resumes. Industry officials can visit with students from the three disciplines in a round-robin style format, interviewing all students or only those whose field of study matches individual companies’ current employment needs.

Running concurrently with the reverse job fair, the SMART open house will offer a behind-the-scenes look at MAMC’s newest career skills program. Participants can tour the newly expanded learning lab, talk with SMART instructors and students and see demonstrations of the training technology.

MAMC partnered with Mountwest Community and Technical College to launch SMART in 2024 in response to industry demand for skilled industrial maintenance technicians. More than two dozen state and regional companies provided input on development of the program, including several of that also donated equipment.

The SMART program is offered in Huntington and Point Pleasant.

“The reverse job fair is not only a plank in our commitment to helping our students find jobs, but a key component of our ongoing effort to directly connect companies in need of machinists, welders and industrial maintenance technicians with the skilled talent they need,” said MAMC Director Derek Scarbro.

“We encourage industry representatives from across the region to meet with all of our career-skills students and learn more about how our SMART program prepares individuals for in-demand jobs in programmable logic control, hydraulics and pneumatics, electrical systems, automation, robotics – the technical fields that compose industrial maintenance.”
