Machinist Technology Instructor/Technician

Position Type: Full-time, grant-funded, exempt position

Qualifications:

The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI), West Virginia’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, is accepting resumes for a Machinist Technology Instructor/Technician who will be based at RCBI Charleston.

Required Qualifications:  Must have a minimum of five years’ work experience with manual equipment, CNC programming and machine operation. Experience in machining that includes using engine lathes, horizontal mills, vertical mills, grinders and saws is required. Must be proficient in the application of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, blueprint reading, the machinability of materials and set up of machine shop equipment. Knowledge of CAD/CAM software is required. Strong oral and written skills combined with a team-player attitude are required. Interested individuals must display self-initiative and the ability to work in a team environment. Must be willing to travel statewide to provide training and visit manufacturing companies to advise of RCBI service offerings and perform recruiting activities. An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is required. May use a combination of education, certification and years of experience to substitute for degrees.

Preferred Qualifications: Hands-on instruction or training experience is preferred. Oversight and supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.

Duties:

Designing and providing customized training to meet industry demand; assist with technical services for clients; assisting with instruction of Machinist Technology/CNC Program including student pre-testing, interviews and selection; developing lesson plans; maintaining discipline in the classroom and hands-on lab; instructing students on a day-to-day basis; evaluating student performance; and maintaining attendance and test records.  Performing preventive maintenance on shop equipment; maintaining inventory of supplies; working with the RCBI Industry Advisory Council to maintain industry standards. Includes day-to-day interaction with all RCBI sites, pertinent day-to-day interaction with RCBI management, intense day-to-day interaction with local and regional customers, ensure partner and industry satisfaction, lead in developing and implementing appropriate procedures and processes to ensure the latest technologies are available.  Lead in maintaining a safe and clean facility, assuring all safety procedures are followed.  Assist with recruiting activities.  Travel is required and the successful candidate may spend time at the RCBI Huntington facility.

Additional Responsibilities:  Programming, set-up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment; maintaining familiarity with new and developing manufacturing processes and materials; assisting industrial sector with advanced metalworking and composite techniques to develop and enhance the regions’ industrial capabilities, and performing other duties as assigned.

Salary: Highly qualified applicants may earn up to $65,000.
