The West Virginia Paving commercial division is an integral part of the company as a whole. Projects that fall under the direction of the commercial division include: Airport rehabilitation projects for the Federal Aviation Administration Residential parking lots, roadways, and streets for developers Commercial site drainage, grading, and paving Cities and public agencies​ State work is any road that is owned, operated, and maintained by the state of West Virginia Department of Highways (WVDOH). Asphalt mix designs for state work vary depending on the area and the job. Each design must meet the specifications listed by the WVDOH. Federal Projects use funding from the Federal Government to perform jobs on state roads. These jobs are often overseen by Federal Inspectors, and mix designs must meet the Federal regulations. The West Virginia Department of Highways awards jobs based on a low bid price, which means the lowest bid is awarded the work. It is a fair and balanced system in which we are proud to be involved. Please take a few moments to review the below facts about warm-mix asphalt: Reduces the use of natural resources and the production of carbon dioxide Warm Mix Asphalts typical expected reduction of emissions are: carbon dioxide and sulfer dioxide reduced 30-40%, volatile organic compound 50%, carbon monoxide 10-30%, and nitrogen oxide 60-70%. Hot-Mix Asphalt requires heating temperatures in the range of 280-300 degrees Fahrenheit, while warm-mix asphalt is heated at temperatures that range from 212-280 degrees Fahrenheit. This cooler production temperature can reduce dependency on fuel and energy. Warm-Mix Asphalt improves compaction which will enhance the durability of roadways and allow for a shorter re-open time for the general traffic. Warm-Mix Asphalt makes it possible for higher percentages of recycled asphalt to be used in the mix. In some tests the mix has been made up of between 20-50% recycled asphalt.
