MakerVault Wiki – Bambu Labs X-1 Carbon

This quick-reference guide will help you get started with the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon.

1. The Touchscreen Interface

The X1 Carbon features a high-resolution touchscreen for complete machine control.

  • Home: View the current printer status, nozzle/bed temperatures, and active filament.
  • Control: Manually move the Toolhead (X/Y/Z), home the axes, or control the internal chamber lights.
  • Filament: The central hub for loading, unloading, and managing the AMS (Automatic Material System).

2. Hardware Preparation

Before starting, ensure the physical environment is ready for a high-speed print.

  • Build Plate: Most MakerVault Printers use the Textured PEI Plate. Ensure it is clean and properly aligned with the rear positioning tabs.
  • Lidar & Camera: The X1 Carbon uses Micro Lidar to automatically calibrate flow and check the first layer for defects. Ensure the lens is clear of dust.Don’t mistake the lidar scanning process as a print failure! It is normal for the X-1 Carbon to slowly scan over the first print layer to check for defects!

3. Filament Procedures

Option A: External Spool (Rear)

  1. Place the spool on the rear holder and feed the filament into the PTFE guide tube until it reaches the toolhead.
  2. On the screen, select “Load” and follow the prompts to heat the nozzle and prime the plastic.

Option B: Using the AMS (Multi-Material)

  1. Insert the filament into any of the four AMS slots until the motor grabs it.
  2. The printer will automatically detect the filament if it is a Bambu brand (RFID); otherwise, manually assign the color and type on the screen. (Filament roll icon)

4. Starting Your Print

  • From Bambu Studio: Hit “Print Plate” and ensure “Enable Bed Leveling” and “Flow Calibration” are checked for the best results.
  • From SD Card: Navigate to the Files tab on the touchscreen, select your model, and hit “Print”.

5. Pro-Tips for the X1 Carbon

  • The “Purge” Chute: This printer ejects small amounts of waste plastic out the back during color changes. Ensure the chute is clear before starting a long print.
  • First Layer Monitoring: Even with Lidar, it is good practice to watch the first 3 minutes. A successful first layer should be smooth and have a slight “squish”.
