West Virginia Women Work is enrolling participants in the free Step Up for Women Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship. Classes begin Feb. 17 in Dunbar and South Charleston.
Women 18 and older who have a high school diploma or the equivalent are eligible for the 10-week training, which prepares women for entry-level jobs as machinists or for industry apprenticeships. Hands-on and related machinist instruction is provided by the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC).
No experience is necessary.
Participants also learn blueprint reading, precision measuring, safety and computer-aided design and receive career readiness instruction to help them prepare for, find and maintain employment. This includes resume writing, interviewing, job hunting techniques, effective communication and money management.
Job placement assistance also is provided.
