Take advantage of our extended making hours, new Tech Talk Thursday

To better serve the Marshall University community and makers across the Tri-State, the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC) is offering extended makerspace hours every Tuesday and Thursday until 7 p.m.

The Thursday extended hours include Tech Talks, informal maker mixers where creative types can share their creations, brainstorm with like-minded individuals and get help with technical challenges.

“The Maker Vault, our community makerspace, is open to everyone from Marshall students facility and staff, to local hobbyists, artists, inventors, tinkerers, school children – anyone who need access to tools, technology and the expertise of our staff,” said Kara Mullins, MAMC Makerspace/STEM Coordinator.

“We realize that school, work and other commitments may prevents some people from taking advanced of the myriad of technology available during regular business hours. By extending our hours two days a week, we hope more creative types of all kinds will take advantage of West Virginia’s largest makerspace.”

The Maker Vault will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. other weekdays. Monthly memberships start at $25 per person.

Tech Talk Thursdays are informal get-togethers where creative types can exchange ideas, learn about new technologies and find inspiration and support for their maker projects, Mullins said. There is no cost to participate.

Deacon Stone, MAMC Director of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, will lead the informal, free-flowing Tech Talks. “We want to foster the spirit of making, whatever form that may take,” Stone said. “The needs of attendees will guide the conversations. Bring your maker challenges and join us each Thursday evening or come learn from the experiences of other makers.”

The Maker Vault contains a variety of making tools, everything from 3D printers and laser etchers/engravers to vacuum formers, plastic extrusion technology, soldering and woodworking equipment and much more. To learn more, visit the Maker Vault webpage at www.mfg.marshall.edu/maker-vault.

For more information, contact Mullins at 304-781-1624 or or Stone at or 304-781-1659.
