Tri-State manufacturer achieves quality standard with MAMC assistance

A Tri-state area manufacturer operating from facilities in Ironton, Ohio, and Wheelersburg, Ohio, has achieved for its first-ever registration to ISO 9001: 2015, an international quality management standard that strengthens its position in manufacturing and engineering markets.

The ISO recommendation for American Hydraulic Services’ (AHS) registration comes after assistance from the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC). Its new registration promises to open new doors, expand the manufacturer’s U.S. market opportunities and present diversification opportunities in international markets.

“Increasing business opportunities is another way that manufacturers can succeed and support their workers with good paying jobs, which is key to a strong economy,” said Derek Scarbro, MAMC Director. “We’re excited that AHS has committed to enhance its operations and customer service with the ISO 9001 standard. A quality approach will contribute to today’s modern manufacturing – a core industry that continues to drive our economy.”

Shawn Mulvaney, Vice President of Manufacturing at AHS, expressed confidence in his company’s future, now proudly flying the ISO banner to attract new clients.

“We really appreciate what Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center has been able to accomplish with us,” Mulvaney said. “Getting us through our ISO certification went tremendously, as we completed our final audits for the Ironton and Wheelersburg locations and passed with zero findings, and have been given the recommendation of attaining our certification.

“We could not have achieved this without the wonderful help from Erica [Cheetham, MAMC’s Director of Quality Services] and Loria [Martin, MAMC’s Quality Management Systems Specialist] and they deserve much credit,” Mulvaney said. “It’s been great working with them and I would recommend them to anyone, because they have a great amount of knowledge covering ISO 9001 and much more.”

AHS was founded in 1995 in West Virginia by Jeremiah Fulks and Randall Blankenship as American Hose Industrial Supply producing custom hoses for clients. The manufacturer has grown and vastly expanded its operations and capabilities. Operating with a workforce of more than 60 individuals, its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities are designed and equipped to provide a full range of heavy fabrication, machining, hydraulic repair and manufacturing needs including comprehensive railroad services.

The manufacturer can build from clients’ existing designs or blueprints, or its team can provide engineering and design blueprints based on a prototype for light and heavy industrial products. Already working with multiple steel mills across the United States and offering more than two dozen different Heavy Industrial Pallet designs that are changing daily, Mulvaney said its ISO 9001 registration will help continue its growth in new and expanded markets – with its sights set on government agency and defense contracts.

The Quality group at MAMC assists companies with development and implementation of quality management systems to ensure customer satisfaction and continual improvement.
